Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information Can I Afford This? (the "Service") collects, how it's used, and who can see it.

2. Using the Service without an account

You can use the core calculator without creating an account or signing in. When you do:

• The numbers you enter (income, expenses, savings, purchase details, and so on) are calculated entirely in your browser. They are not sent to or stored on our servers.
• Your browser stores two small pieces of information locally on your own device, used only to track how many free analyses you've used on that browser: a randomly generated id, and a count of analyses used. Neither is your name, email, IP address, or anything you typed into the calculator.

3. Creating an account

If you create an account (currently by email and password), we store your email address, using Supabase as our authentication and database provider.

4. Subscribing to Pro

If you choose to subscribe to Pro, checkout is handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy, our payment processor — you enter your payment details on their site, never ours, and we do not see or store your card information. Lemon Squeezy sends us your email address, subscription status, and billing dates (such as when your subscription renews or ends), which we store to determine whether your account has Pro access.

5. Saving a decision

If you're signed in and choose to save a purchase analysis — this only happens when you click "Save this decision"; it does not happen automatically — we store the financial and purchase information you entered for that analysis, together with the calculated result, linked to your account. Access to saved decisions is restricted at the database level so that one account cannot read another account's data.

6. What we don't do

• We do not connect to your bank, brokerage, or any financial institution.
• We do not perform a credit check.
• We do not sell your information.
• We do not send any financial figures you enter (income, expenses, savings, debt, purchase price, financing details, and so on), or your name or email address, to analytics providers. See Section 9.

7. Retention and deletion

Saved decisions and account information persist until removed. The Service does not currently include a self-service "delete my account" or "delete this decision" feature. If you'd like your account or saved data removed, contact us at contact@trycaniaffordthis.com and we will handle it manually.

8. Data storage and security

Account and saved-decision data is stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider. We have not obtained any independent security certification of this infrastructure, and we do not claim compliance with any specific data-protection regulation (such as GDPR or CCPA) at this time.

9. Cookies, local storage, and analytics

The Service uses browser storage to keep you signed in (via authentication cookies) and, for anonymous use, the local device storage described in Section 2.

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Clarity records how you interact with our pages — such as pages visited, clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement — along with general device and browser information, and may set its own cookies to recognize repeat visits. The calculator, results, saved decisions, and account pages are masked in Clarity, so the figures you enter or see there, and your email address, are not included in what it records. Microsoft processes this information under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

We do not use advertising cookies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
